I came across an article recently on Facebook about travel being a real addiction. A doctor was quoted in the piece confirming just that. But I have to disagree with that diagnosis. Because for me, travel is a lifestyle choice. Continue reading “Travel: Addiction or Lifestyle?”
Dawn was not only the start of a brand new day, but it was a strategic defensive tactic employed by the military. The early morning light, as the sun slowly rose slowly over the horizon, played tricks on the eyes. In war, it was the perfect time to take advantage of your enemy.
And so was born the Anzac Day Dawn Service. Continue reading “Strategic Dawn”
We often remember exactly where we were during a tragic world event and 2016 certainly had no shortage of these. In particular, one day stands out to me – 22 March 2016 – and it still feels surreal to me that I was there. I still remember the way I felt when the early morning bustling city suddenly became as empty and still as a war-zone. Continue reading “Brussels – One Year Stronger”
Is there a right time for you to travel somewhere? Just because all your friends and colleagues have visited the top holiday destinations, does it mean you have to as well? And if you do, will you enjoy it more or less? That is what it is like for me. I have to feel a strong enough pull towards a country before I can fully appreciate all it has to offer. Continue reading “The Right Time to Travel”
When the clock strikes midnight on 31 December the New Year resolutions are not that far behind. However, it is easy to get caught up in fireworks and parties that mark the start of a new year and fall back onto the same resolutions you made last year. If you have not really thought through your resolutions then it will be hard to maintain committment. Continue reading “How to Make Your New Year Resolutions Count”
What is home? It is where you feel the most connected with. It need not be the place where you were born. Home is where you feel the greatest spiritual connection. It is the place where you are the most happy and free. While my physical home may be in Adelaide, the more I travelled the more I have come to realise that home is not a place but it is a feeling. Continue reading “Home is Not a Place But a Feeling”
The perfect way to say goodbye to Paris is at the top of La Tour Eiffel. A gorgeous view, a tasty glass of bubbly from the Champagne Bar, what more could you ask for? Continue reading “Last Night in Paris”
Unfortunately travel today means the first thing you have to put in your mind is to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Yet we cannot let the threat and actual events of terrorism disrupt us from our everyday lives. The explosions in Brussels this morning, 22 March 2016, remind us that we must always be alert. Yet still be able to focus on enjoying a holiday. It is not easy but at the same time we cannot let this event keep us from exploring the world. Continue reading “A Grim Travel Reality”
Welcome to 2016. A year filled with new adventures, hopes and dreams. As it is a new year I have given my blog a fresh new look for 2016. A big thank you to all my readers for following along on my travel adventures and tales. I have also enjoyed reading your own blogs and personal stories. When I started this blog over a year ago I never imagined how big the blogging community would be. There are so many talented writers around the world all connected by the web, a passion to write and sharing stories just like a family.
In 2016 I wish everyone a successful year in achieving the goals you have set but also to have fun along the way. Quite often we get caught up in matters beyond our control over and forget about things that are important to us. Not just in a travel sense but also within our own lives. It is a time to reflect on our events and achievements of last year and move forward to build on our dreams and aspirations.
I am not a fan of making a list of new year resolutions that are at risk of not being realistic or achievable. This year I will focus progressing a few writing projects that have been waiting in the wings. I will also be adding some new features to my blog this year, so stay tuned.
