Christmas in the City

Following a long year in of ups and downs, we have made it to December. In Adelaide, the city has emerged from its lockdown state. Decorations are visible in stores and along our premier shopping strip – Rundle Mall.

While travel restrictions still prevent us travelling too far, the city is doing its best to bring back the Christmas spirit. People have returned to the stores buying presents for family and friends.

However, the annual Christmas pageant which usually delights young and old alike was held inside the Adelaide Oval stadium. Spectators were significantly reduced and attendance was nomination by ballot. As you can imagine a lot of people missed out.

The annual Carols by Candlelight will not be held in the park this year. It will be online with only a few people to attend in person at the Adelaide Town Hall. Again, people have to register for one of the limited places.

But as restrictions across the State slowly lift once more, families will be able to gather together to celebrate at Christmas parties.

The one Christmas tradition that cannot be taken away from the children is the arrival of Santa. He has been given special travel permissions to visit each home and leave a gift for the children inside.

As we see out the final weeks of 2020, the best gift we can wish for is a happy 2021.
