The only person you need permission from is yourself. You and you alone have the power to choose the life you want to live. As society would have it, your life is planned out for you before you know it. There are expectations that you will follow in the footsteps of those before you or take on a life and job which you may not necessarily feel is for you. But it is never too late to discover the life you want to lead.
Every choice you make, each thought you have and action you take today will create the person you want to be tomorrow. These choices, thoughts and actions can shape your future self. While you may not be able to control what goes on around you, you do have the power to control how you react and respond in each situation.
You control the decisions you make to write your next chapter.
Start by asking yourself some questions. Grab a notebook or your journal and start writing about the life you want for yourself. What would make you happy. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. This is about looking within yourself and finding you true self.
Questions you may ask yourself are:
- What do I want to be?
- What goals do I want to achieve in the next six months?
- What is holding me back from achieving those goals? What behaviours or habits are stopping me get what what I want?
- What new behaviours and habits will move me forward and help me achieve my goals?
- Is there anything I need to let go of?
- What makes me happy? What makes me excited in life?
As you self reflect, give yourself permission to celebrate your life, body, mind, health and wellbeing everyday. On your terms. Give yourself permission to indulge in what makes you happy. Make YOU a priority.
You may discover opportunities are available to allow you to reach your goals. However, if not, give yourself permission to create an opportunity. Trust your intuition. It may be scary to think about stepping outside of your comfort zone, but you may regret it if you let an opportunity pass you by.
Often the best things in life happen when we do what makes us uncomfortable. These uncomfortable things can be rewarding and life changing.
Remember, it does not have to be big. You may discover only small changes are needed for you to be happy. No matter what your goals, be sure to make sure they fulfil you and allow you to be the best person you can be.
Take a breathe, a chance and celebrate your new champagne life.
